Fitted wardrobes, Colchester

Fitted wardrobes, made for your room.

I design, build, fit and paint every wardrobe myself, so the person you talk to is the person who makes it. Try out the size, layout, doors and colours below, and see what it could look like in your room. When you're happy, book a visit. I'll measure up, go through your design with you and give you a fixed price.

Before you start

How to measure

All you need is a tape measure and five minutes. Walls and ceilings are rarely straight, so measure in a few places and use the smallest figure. Close is fine. I'll measure properly before anything is made.

    Measure the width

Measure wall to wall at the top, in the middle and at the bottom. Measure above the skirting, not along it.

    Widths in millimetres
  2. H1H2H3 leftmiddlerightCeiling
    2

    Measure the height

Measure floor to ceiling on the left, in the middle and on the right. Measure from the floor itself, not the top of a carpet gripper.

    Only if the ceiling slopes

Both measurements start at the foot of the short wall, where the ceiling is lowest.

A Measure straight up the short wall to the ceiling.

B Measure along the floor to the point right under where the slope meets the flat ceiling. A plumb line or spirit level held up to that corner helps you find the spot.

Use the smallest figures

The designer updates as you type, using your smallest width and height. Press the button to jump down to it.

Around 1,000 to 1,100 mm suits most people. Go lower for a child's room.

Like something else? Browse all Hendel & Hendel handles and mention it in your booking notes. I can fit any of them.

Cornice and skirting

Cornice, along the top
Skirting, along the bottom

Painted or finished to match the doors, and scribed to your ceiling and floor. Priced at the visit.

The inside

Layout

Choose what goes behind each pair of doors. Tap "Doors open" on the drawing to see it.

Drawer height is the height of each drawer front. Shallow drawers suit jewellery, belts and socks.

Inside finish

Wood is finished in Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C, which colours and protects in one coat. Colours on screen are a guide. I'll bring real samples on the visit.

How they turn on

See it as a photo

Happy with your design? Tap the button for two AI photos of it, one with the doors closed and one with them open.

AI photos give you a feel for it. They can get small details wrong, so your drawing and spec are what I build.

Step 2

Book a visit

Let me know when suits you and I'll be in touch to confirm a time. I'll come out, measure up properly, look at the room and go through your design with you.

Then save your design. It goes to your phone as a picture with the drawing, the spec, the rough price and your visit details on it.

Pick up to three dates that suit you

No dates picked yet. Leave it blank and I'll offer some.

Best time

I'll only use your details to arrange your visit and quote. See my privacy notice.

This explains what I do with your details when you use this website or ask me to quote. In short: I only use them to arrange your visit, quote and do the work, I never sell them, and I keep them only as long as I need to.

Who I am

Oak & Fern is run by me, Christopher, a sole trader based in Brightlingsea, Essex. I'm responsible for your personal information. You can reach me on Christopher@oakandfern.co.uk or 07791 418506.

What I collect

When you book a visit or send me your design, I get:

  • your name, phone number and town or postcode
  • the dates and times that suit you, and anything you tell me in the notes
  • your wardrobe design and rough estimate
  • anything else you choose to send me, such as photos or measurements of your room

If you go ahead, I'll also need your address, and I'll keep the quote, invoices and payment records.

While you're designing, your choices stay on your own device. Nothing reaches me until you send it.

Why I use it, and the legal basis

  • To arrange your visit, measure up, quote and do the work. The legal basis is that you've asked me to, before and under a contract with you.
  • To keep accounts and tax records. The legal basis is that the law requires me to.
  • To deal with any problem with the work afterwards. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in standing behind my work and handling any claims.

I won't send you marketing, and I don't use your details for anything else.

Who sees it

I don't sell or share your details with anyone for their own use. They pass through, or are stored by, the services I use to run the business:

  • my email and phone providers, and whichever app you use to send me your design
  • Netlify, the company that hosts this website. Booking requests go through it and it emails them to me
  • my accountant, for invoices and payments

This website loads its fonts from Google, so your browser connects to Google's servers, which see your device's internet address.

If you tap "Show me as photos", a drawing of your design and a description of it are sent to Google's Gemini service to make the photos. No name, phone number or other personal details go with them.

How long I keep it

  • If you don't go ahead, I delete your details within 12 months.
  • If you do, I keep your records for 6 years after the job is finished, for tax and in case of any claim about the work. Then I delete them.

Cookies

This website doesn't use cookies, tracking or advertising tools.

Your rights

You can ask me to:

  • give you a copy of the information I hold about you
  • correct anything that's wrong
  • delete your information, unless I have to keep it, such as tax records
  • stop or limit how I use it, or give it to you in a form you can pass on

Just email or text me. I'll reply within a month.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, please tell me first and I'll put it right. I'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days.
